Michael Habib
About: I received my M.S. in Library Science from the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill in December 2006 and am currently working as a Customer Experience & Publishing Specialist at the print-on-demand do-it-yourself publishing company Lulu.com.
My specialty and passion is designing relevant and usable social tools around content such as books, articles, and related metadata (citations, bibliographic records, etc.).
I apply the concept of faceted tagging to collect semantically valuable user contributed metadata; then employ concepts of faceted friending to connect people to situationally relevant content and contacts.
On a grander scale, I plan to develop online communities and services that promote the idea of digital library as place. Like physical libraries, digital libraries need to be community centers, collaborative study spaces, meeting spaces, etc.
